I recently had character creation sessions for my two upcoming streamed games and noticed a distinct difference in player styles. My Sunday night group consists of RPG storytellers and theater geeks who focus on deep character arcs and emotional storytelling, while my Friday night group is made up of streamers who prioritize humor and entertainment. To accommodate both, I'll tailor my approach—Friday nights will be more improv-heavy with comedic NPCs, while Sundays will feature tragic narratives and complex villains.

So recently I took a hiatus of sort so that I could deal with PAX Unplugged, and Philadelphia Area Gaming Expo. I am finding it hard to get back to putting my nose to grindstone. So here are a few things I am trying to do to help me.

Three days after PAGE 2, I’m still thinking about the two Ironbound games I ran. Both were a blast, but one stood out because of a new mechanic I tested—where rolling a 1 with a boon or a 12 with a bane created unexpected twists, regardless of success or failure. Players loved it. They weren’t just rolling dice; they were anticipating the chaos it could bring. That level of engagement convinced me—this mechanic is going in the book.
