SIlly or Not to be Silly
To be or not to be that is the question. Or is it? Recently I had two character creation sessions for both of my upcoming streamed games. They reminded me that there are two very different players. Ones who are here to have fun and ones that are here for a deep story
Now I am not saying that those have to be separate, but I totally got two different vibes. My Sunday night group is made up of high school theater geeks and RPG nerds. While my Friday night game is a bunch of streamers who want to entertain. They both looked at character creation totally different.
My Sunday night group were serious about it all. They looked for storylines that could be told and character motivation. My Friday night group looked for joke and entertainment value of their characters. Now I am not saying one is better than the other. All I am saying is I will need to prepare two different ways to deal with these players.
My Sunday group will be looking for backstory ties to the current story. My Friday night group is going to be looking for opportunities to be in the lime light. Example I have one player on Friday that came to the table wanting his character to be dwarven cook who throws magical meatballs and uses food to serve up justice. This was fine, I went to the table thinking we were going to a serious game about a murder mystery with a lovely adventure being made by my friends at Avenue Studios which is releasing on Kickstarter in May. Check it out here
In preparing for these games, I am going to do more adlibbing in my Friday night sessions. I will prepare NPC’s that will be there for entertainment. I will create NPC’s who have funny voices, interesting names and dedication to the joke. Sunday Night games will have more of a tragic stories, The NPC’s will have trauma and remorse. I will look to create Big Bad Evil that spurs on the players since of duty and justice.
I am looking forward to both of these game for different reasons. My Friday Night game will be fully of fart jokes and rude gestures while my Sunday Night game is going to be using more of my acting chops. If you want to see how these games turn out then come by my YouTube or Twitch channels Friday at 8:30 PM Eastern and Sundays at 5:30PM Eastern
