Making a ttrpg is…
Look, many of you would think the answer to the above would be hard. I am actually here to say making the actually TTRPG is not the hard part. It's kind of easy compared to the rest of the unseen iceberg.
There are layers to making a TTRPG, I have discovered. The first layer is making the ruleset and lore. I found this to be easy. The second layer is play testing. Play testing is hard because you need play testers who will be brutally honest and not just say they had fun. You need feedback or the game won't improve. The third layer is rewrite and play test again…. Well let's be honest this is like layers three to a hundred or even thousand. Once you have a smooth playing game, you need to publish it.
Oh wow! I did not realize how much self publishing is really hard. Trust me, it's easier than it was even six years ago, but it's still hard. You need to do Layout! Get art! Edit! Edit again! Edit once again!
Once you finally get it to the point where you are happy. You will need to either find a printer or do a print on demand service. I can't speak to find a printer because I went the print on demand. It just seems to be easier, but less profit margin.
So really, the tip of the iceberg making the actual TTRPG is the easy part of the process. I didn't even talk about advertising, and marketing. Those are nightmares of the money pouch thief.
